Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is known by a variety of names, including thioctic acid, 1, 2-dithiolane-3-pentanoic acid, 1, 2-dithiolane-3 valeric acid, dihydrolipoic acid, lipoic acid, and 6, 8-thioctic acid.
