When people research their next protein powder, some concentrate on protein per serving, sugar per serving, or overall cost. But usually more than any other characteristics, protein consumers care about taste. So you want the best tasting protein powders.
And rightfully so! If you’re buying in bulk (and if you’re looking to save money long term then you absolutely should be), then you are going to be stuck with this protein powder for the next 2-3 months. Now imagine that when you try it out after spending money on it, the protein tastes like garbage!
Luckily for you, we have compiled a list of ten of the best-tasting protein powders out there. We have also ensured that each and every one comes from a reputable company that makes high-quality protein powders.
Without further ado, let’s find out how the protein powders rank!
MyProtein took the protein market by storm and today is one of the largest, if not the largest, seller of protein powders worldwide. Beyond being one of the best value for money quality proteins out there, the flavor variety in the MYPROTEIN popular Impact Whey lineup can be overwhelming.
There are a few great flavors in the huge list of 22 flavors. But, we’ll save you the trouble of going through all 22.
Salted Caramel stands above them all in our opinion and in the opinion of thousands of reviewers worldwide. It is not only a unique flavor it is also so well executed that you’ll just want to drink your protein all day long!
Also, this baby makes a great protein coffee creamer! By a mile, the best tasting protein powder on the market.
We have Apollon Nutrition supplements in several of our top lists. And Formula X 50/50 deserves a spot on this list! How about a mix of 50% Protein Isolate and 50% Micellar Casein protein combined with a fully disclosed label.
Beyond being one of the highest quality protein out there, the Peanut Butter flavored version is one of the best tasting proteins out there! The only real caveat with this unique protein is the price. But if you can afford it and you like Peanut Butter, you will not regret buying this product.
Next we have Isolit from Primeval Labs. All 3 flavors we tried are just amazing. And this is an Isolate protein. Which is way harder to flavor. With 25g of 100% whey isolate, you wouldn’t expect this protein to taste as good as it does.
But I can only tell you I was overwhelmed. Even the Vanilla tasted just like a vanilla milkshake. So if you are a coffee flavor lover, look no further!
Here we have a protein powder that not only smells great but tastes amazing too. You might be forgiven for thinking that a product named chocolate cupcake will just taste like chocolate. There are many chocolate protein powders out there, and while a lot of them have different titles, they all end up tasting of chocolate.
Not so with Frosted Chocolate Cupcake from PES, this tastes and smells like an actual cupcake. Meaning that it smells like cupcake batter, with chocolate frosting. A very different taste. There is 24g of protein per serving and this is one of the best powders for mixing, with almost no effort needed to get a clump-free drink.
SYNTHA-6 from BSN comes in a variety of flavors, each one could easily go on this list, seriously, just check out their reviews online. Cinnamon bun, Graham Cracker, Peanut Butter Cookie, all get rave reviews. But Chocolate Milkshake stands out for us as their best flavor!
The SYNTHA 6 Chocolate Milkshake is probably as close as you can get to a milkshake flavor without going for one. SYNTHA 6’s texture is the creamiest protein shake on this list and its taste has stood the test of time.
Merica Labz is continuing in their American journey. And, one can only admire their approach and consistency with not only the branding side, but continuing to innovate, even in categories that you would think have seen it all. Patriot’s Whey is a super cool product which is going to make your protein experience GREAT AGAIN!
One of the first brands to introduce inclusions in your protein powder such as cereal pieces, you are going to enjoy this protein.
MAN Sports was late into the protein game and actually introduced their first protein only in 2016. Their Isolate offering came later in the form of the ISO-Protein. And we can surely say it was worth the wait. ISO Protein is a super pure whey isolate protein. Bringing in 28g of micro filtered protein isolate out of a 31g serving size. But you are not reading this review to hear about how good of a protein it is. Right?
Iso-Protein Blueberry Muffin is one of the best protein supplements we ever tasted. And for an Isolate protein, it is surprisingly creamy. As you can see from our review below, it is hard to imagine a protein powder that would taste more like a blueberry muffin than the MAN sports protein. And if you are into muffins, you are in for a real treat!
MTS Machine is another great protein powder in its own right, with 25g of protein, 5g of BCAAs and 5g of Glutamine. The most popular flavor is Peanut Butter Fluff, and it is fantastic. For starters, anything that tastes of peanut butter but is low calorie is going to be awesome because real peanut butter is one of the most calorie-dense foods imaginable.
But other than chocolate, peanut butter is one of the most versatile flavors that you can use. Cooking with peanut butter fluff protein is really good, and there are a huge number of protein recipes that would really benefit from this flavor.
Every time we review a BPI product we always talk about them being high quality, and their best protein range is no exception. Each shake contains no fillers, 24g of protein (from a mixture of whey concentrate/isolate/and hydrolysate), and 5g of BCAAs.
The flavors available are vast, but in our opinion, Snickerdoodle is the best. Salted Caramel and S’mores get an honorable mention.
Lastly we have another Dymatize product to round off the list, this time it is from their Elite range. There’s 25g of protein per serving with 5.5g of BCAAs, and only 140 calories. Cafe Mocha was designed to taste like a delicious mug of coffee, and it does exactly that.
The first thing you notice is the smell when you open the lid, and the taste is excellent. Try it blended with ice and milk for an iced coffee that’s high in protein and low in calories (and obviously caffeine free). Although it is at the bottom of the list, this is still one of the best tasting protein powders.
